Aqua Mix Grout Colorant

Pieces of ceramic tile, stone and marble have been used for centuries on floors,
walls, tabletops and mosaic murals.  And that's probably how long the search has
lasted for a way to keep the grout between the pieces clean and bright.

Commercial products are fine for masons and tile setters accustomed to working
with caustic cleaners.  But what about the average person looking at grungy grout
in a shower stall or on a countertop?

Aqua Mix, a Santa Fe, CA-based company, has been in the business of sealing,
brightening and recoloring grout for 20 years.  Now the company's products have
been reformulated and simplified for do-it-yourselfers.

"A lot of people have old tile in baths and kitchens, but they don't want to replace
all of the tile," says Aqua Mix. "When the appearance becomes too dingy, this is a cost-effective alternative."

The super-concentrated, phosphate-free Aqua Mix Grout colorant comes in 24 stock shades, including buff, teal, cinnamon, rose and pewter, plus several shades of white.
"We are in constant contact with grout manufacturers, so we can match whatever
their most popular and new colors are," Aqua Mix says.

The Aqua Mix Grout Colorant kit, contain an Aqua Mix Grout cleaner, an Aqua Mix Grout Colorant brush applicator and a tube of Aqua Mix Grout colorant.  After the tiles are scrubbed, the color is brushed on and left to (almost) dry.  Then a nylon mesh pad is used to remove Grout colorant from surrounding tiles, leaving the lines a brighter white or an entirely new color - say green between white tiles in a child's bathroom, or a robin's egg blue between slate tiles in a foyer.  Results should last up to 15 years, according to Aqua Mix.

"In an older home, if the grout is cracked or missing, this won't work as a grout
filler," Aqua Mix cautions.  The grout has to be in fairly good condition for the color
to cover well. "If there is more than a hairline crack, you would need to re-grout
before applying the colorant."

Aqua Mix Grout Colorant

Coverage: Approximately 50 to 300 sq. ft. (5 m2 to 28 m2) per 8-oz. bottle, depending on width and porosity of grout joint, size of tile and method of application.

Description: Easy-to use waterborne epoxy that recolors, seals and rejuvenates existing grout joints.

Uses: Recommended for use on sanded, unsanded and epoxy grout joints.  Equally effective for interior and exterior applications.

Expected Wear: Will vary depending on hardness and texture of surface, type of area, surface wear, frequency and type of maintenance products used.   Expected wear is up to 15 years.  Extreme weather conditions, harsh cleaning methods and high-alkaline or solvent-based cleaners will affect wear.
